At the twilight of one's life (when one is approaching the last ten percent of one's life), one takes stock, consciously or unconsciously, of what has been the lasting experience in one's life. I publish mine in case it is not too late for others to change.
I can divide my lasting experiences into three groups:
- Moments of unconditional love
Unconditional love is not when someone just gives selflessly, but I would describe it as when one can stay in the flow of love. The flow of love also stops automatically when it is not accepted, when it is not reciprocated, or when someone wants to convert it to something else. That is why we can speak of moments only. Love is perhaps the only feeling that cannot be converted into anything else. If an idea appears in anyone's mind that if you love, you should do this or that, think this way or that, the magic is gone. In the state of unconditional love, we forget about ourselves (our ego), the barriers that separate us, we are simply present in a current that flows through us to the other and the two currents merge in one current and then radiate out into the environment. That is all that remains of human relationships.
- Moments of gate-opening knowledge
The gate-opening knowledge is the one that leads to a universal realization. It is possible to go from very simple, everyday experiences to universal insights. If I bang with my fist on the wall, it will relate back. And so it is, not just with walls, but with people. You don't even have to use a fist, just a debate. And the universal cognition is the law of interaction (action-reaction; effect-counteraction). The cognition is incorporated when it becomes applied knowledge. Not only do we understand a context, but we live by our recognitions. This also requires the presence in the flow. That is how much memory remains from secular teachings and following religious traditions.
- Moments of pure existence
Pure existence is what the yogis, the seekers of enlightenment, look for outside the samsara (the cycle of existence), because that is where they believe they will find it. It is indeed easy to experience pure existence permanently where either everything is perfect or nothing else exists. But this world has been created in such a way that it ends permanently only for someone who is able to realize it anywhere. In pure existence, we do what it is necessary and when it is necessary; we say what it is necessary and when it is necessary. By necessary is to be understood an inner urge. Pure existence is an active presence for the world, in a stream of pure love and awareness, without judgement, in a state of total acceptance. That is all what remains of the coming and going, the hustle and bustle.
I have such moments. But who doesn't have moments, what has he/she achieved?
All other traces of memory are only a bonding that prepares for the suffering and struggles of the next existence. These will disappear, be destroyed, erased forever, at leaving the samsara.
