All of us (except for a few highly evolved teaching souls) are motivated to be born again by our desires, our attachments. We are more attached to earthly gratification than to God. In this sense, the meaning of life is spiritual self-realization (realization of the Over-self) and God-realization, which is also the escape from the reincarnation cycle. It is also the meaning of our suffering. Either we consciously learn to renounce earthly desires and begin to desire God, or our sufferings will force us to do so.
